Mattel Children's Hospital, UCLA Dept. of Pediatrics

Clinical/Clinical Research Team:

Over a span of more than four decades, the physicians, nurses, social workers, child life specialists, psychologists, pharmacists, research assistants and other team members have provided state of the art care for families and their children with cancer and blood disorders. When disease strikes a child, it impacts their entire family. Our team’s holistic approach to children with cancer or blood disorders and their families takes this into account, providing family centered care. We provide access to cutting edge new therapies developed here at UCLA and the Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center through the collaboration of top basic scientiPediatric Hematology/Oncologysts and clinicians.

In addition, we are active participants in several national and regional pediatric clinical cooperative groups (see below) offering access to these innovative trials. The cancer program has been a leader in the field introducing a number of new technologies and treatments. UCLA was one of the first institutions in the world to successfully perform an allogeneic bone marrow transplant and has one of the longest continuously running transplant programs in the world. Our dendritic cell -based vaccine trial is the only one like it in the country for children with aggressive brain tumors. The young adult cancer survivorship program is one of the most successful in the country, utilizing a multidisciplinary approach to help young cancer survivors live a rich and fulfilling life. These are but some of the many programs listed below that offer hope to children and their families with cancer and blood disorders.
