Mattel Children's Hospital

 Critical Care

An Exciting Future at Mattel Children’s Hospital:

The 1994 Northridge earthquake damaged the existing UCLA medical center, prompting UCLA leadership to build a new medical center. With a vision to bring the finest hospital to Los Angeles, UCLA leadership garnered the support of state and federal government, private donors, as well as civic and cultural leaders to construct what many believe is the hospital of the future: Mattel Children's Hospital UCLA. World-renowned architects I.M. Pei and C.C. Pei elegantly designed the structure to seamlessly house three smaller hospitals in one. Utilizing 3 million pounds of travertine marble imported from Tivoli, Italy, a team headed by Perkins and Will completed construction of the Mattel Children's Hospital UCLA in 2007. Entrance to Mattel Children’s Hospital is gained via a butterfly canopy off Gayley Avenue. This state of the art facility features a 24 bed PICU outfitted with the most advanced technology. Features such as wireless access to reports, lab results, clinical imaging and patient vital signs. Members of the department of Pediatric Critical Care invite you to share in our excitement for the future of medical care for critically ill children treated at Mattel Children’s Hospital.
